The silk mills
in Mount Lebanon

Hope can’t be lost in a land that during centuries of harsh occupation was able to establish a diversified economy on something as small as a silk producing worm.
The silky hands of men and women from this country, on the mountains or on the coasts, raised a worm that ended up developing our economy beyond the shores of our Mediterranean by dressing Europe’s royalties.
Sericulture in Lebanon is a silky reminder that at some recent chapter of our lives we have succeeded collectively, beyond gender, region, or rites in silk mills called Kerkhanat,  spread all over the country from north to south.
